OBD-II Adapter (UART) doesn't work on ISO9141-2

I tried to make the adapter working on my motorcycle (protocol ISO9141-2) by running the simple RPM program provided as example but it doesn't work. I double checked all the wiring and all is perfect. No reading from the ECU, with motor on, off, at high rpm, at low rpm... nothing. I made another att...

Re: Powering OBD-II Adapter (UART)

The 5V is not picked from Arduino. It's converted and regulated from the 12V. The 5V is for powering Arduino. Uh! So a second question arises: is the adapter somehow protected from voltage spikes coming from the car power? I read in a lot of post many recommendations in doing so (e.g. via a voltage...

Powering OBD-II Adapter (UART)

Just got my new Freematics adapter few minutes ago. As I understand power supply for the adapter (5 Volt) is picked directly from Arduino board, so no problems/questions about it. I would only be sure that the +12V on the OBD connector is completely ignored/unused by the adapter, I'm right? In other...

Re: ODB-II Adapter is only for cars?

Compliments Gambatte, I hope that it will work on my Guzzi Stelvio too. Somabody knows if it is (somehow) possible to connect a simple (waterproof) 1-digit led display to the OBD adapter? As I see there is only a 2 pin line that can be used... With arduino I can do it easily by driving every segment...

Newbie general questions

Hello to everyone, I'm a newbie about the OBD-II adapter and I'm trying to get a better idea about it. Even if I'm doing my home-works with the Arduino Starter Kit like a good student, I still feel unsure about the Freematics adapter world. I have done a lot of googling to have a general overview bu...

What OBD-II Adapter voltage output for Arduino Uno?

Hello, I would like to buy the OBD-II Adapter for Arduino - Model A (UART) and connect it to an Arduino Uno ( http://store.arduino.cc/product/A000073 ) so I would like to be sure to select the right connector/voltage for it. As I see, while ordering, I can select between 4 connectors and two voltage...

Re: ODB-II Adapter is only for cars?

Hello,

I agree with you, I will make an attempt.
The ECU is a Magneti Marelli IAW 5AM, mounted on many different motorcycle models of different manufacturers. I will try to find out what protocol it uses (until now I cannot find detailed info about that).

Thanks again!

Re: ODB-II Adapter is only for cars?

Hello Stanley, really thanks for your fast answer. So, seems that I cannot use the Adapter to read rpm, speed and clutch toggle to detect the gear used by the motorbike... My project was to drive a (waterproof) gear indicator by using Arduino. A lot of biker consider this accessory really useful but...
