Which Product to Buy

Hi - I am still looking to buy a device to communicate with my Van
its a 2005 VW Transporter T5 that uses the KWP2000 protocol.
I already have a OBD-11 UART Adapter, but that has never started comms, (even though it works on our other VWs)
Has any progress been made with been able to communicate with the transporter?
