Updating firmware in OBD-II adapter?

I have the kit #3 and I'm wondering what the procedure for checking/updating the firmware in the OBD-II adapter is. I read some of the other threads and programming guides but don't see how I am supposed to do this. Is there a difference between the Arduino OBD-II adapter and the Freematics OBD-II adapter? As there are no programming pins visible (unlike some of the programming guide images) is it updated via the I2C connection?

Very interested in responses to this, as currently my Megalogger (kit #3) is unusable as described in my previous threads.

The OBD-II adapter is not firmware upgradable.
